PRINTING
We offer a variety of state of the art archival printing options for both color and black and white. We work
collaboratively with our client throughout the preparation and printing process to ensure the final product
meets or exceeds customer expectations.
A quick overview of our current printers and processes:
The 9800 printer uses Epson's Ultrachrome K3 pigmented ink technology to produce archival prints that can last a hundred years or more.
We run our 9800 using Colorbyte’s Imageprint RIP using their proprietary "phatte" black method. Phatte black allows the light, light black ink cartridge to be replaced by a matte
black cartidge, enabling us to have the printer loaded with both photo and matte black inks. This allows us to print on any media from fine art cotton rag matte type papers to photo gloss
type papers WITHOUT having to change black ink carts. The Imageprint RIP
not only does stellar color output but also amazingly neutral (or uniformly toned) B&W prints on either matte or
glossy media. Output on the Epson 9800 is up to 44" wide by any length.
Newest addition to our printer collection. A twelve color, 16 bit printer which produces stunning color and B&W
output on both matte and glossy papers. The IPF5000 uses proprietary Canon Lucia archival inks and produce prints
with the widest color gamut you can get. Prints on the IPF5000 are up to 17" wide by any length. The Canon IPF5000 works
great with book projects that need double-sided printing.
B&W digital printing (or “quadtone” printing as it is often called) is evolving
rapidly through the introduction of new inksets, paper and RIPS.
We produce the finest black and white print output using a seven shade (of neutral grays and black) carbon pigment
inkset, known as Piezography Neutral K7. These B&W prints are truly neutral, as no color inks are used in the
process. Piezography prints exhibit fine dotless detail and an amazing range of tones, with subtle detail in both the
deepest shadows and brightest highlights. Piezography output can be done on a variety of archival matte or cotton rag type
papers or canvas. Output size up to 44" wide by any length.
When combined with archival paper or canvas, prints can last more than one hundred years. Wilhem Research has some great
information on the lifespan of digital media and ink.
The Imageprint RIP we use includes hundreds of color and B&W profiles (many for different lighting conditions). Some
popular papers we currently use include:
Hahnemuhle Photo Rag and German Etching paper
Innova Photo Fiba Ultrasmooth, Smooth Cotton and F-type Gloss
Epson Premium Gloss and Premium Semimatte
Red River UlraPro Gloss
Crane Silver Rag
Digital B&W and color inkjet printing is an ever evolving technology. Currently we make our fine art archival digital
prints on three inkjet printers. But digital printers and ink technology age in dog years…so what we have today may be
yesterday's news tomorrow. Check back with us often as we are constantly upgrading equipment as technology allows.
This is the printer we use mostly for small format prints (up to 11x17) that need to most resemble conventional
photographic prints. Fuji prints are a great commercial grade print that offer great sharpness and color saturation
on either matte or glossy photo type paper. Fuji pictrography prints are made by a thermal development/dye transfer
process which produces color prints with the life expectancy of a traditional silver halide color print.

Prints larger than 20x24 are billed at $22.50 per square foot. Additional prints of the same image are billed at
$15.00 per sq. ft.
To determine how many square feet your print is, multiply the print's length times width in inches, then divide
by 144. For example, to determine the square footage of a 30x40 inch print, multiply 30x40 to get 1200inches.
Divided by 144, that would be 8.3 square feet.
